Lower Collipriest Farm - Tiverton
There has probably been a settlement at Collipriest since Saxon times.
Collipriest means 'the wood where the charcoal-burners live' so Collipriest
Farm is the farm near the wood where the charcoal-burners lived.
It is situated to the south of the market town of Tiverton
or Twyfords on the river Exe near the joining of the two rivers the
Exe and Lowman.
Meadows, formally sluice meadows possibly used for
the wool trade, to flood the meadows with rushes of water to help in
the softening of the wool run from the front of the farmhouse to the
river and the woods, used in the charcoal burning, are at the rear.
The thatched farmhouse, a Scheduled building offers
warm spacious twin bedded en suite bathrooms, a lounge with inglenook
open fireplace, plus full central heating throughout, and tasty breakfasts
and evening meals.
Views of Dartmoor and Exmoor can be enjoyed while walking
over the farm. The river and pond are home to much wildlife and many
plants.
We would enjoy showing you our farm - visiting the
milking parlour to see the milking, watch calves being fed, silage and
hay making and maize harvesting in season.
