Our
imposing, stone farmhouse and its courtyard of traditional barns
command a fine position overlooking the Exe Valley with its wooded
hillsides and peaceful river meadows. The view from our south-facing
farmhouse wing is superb throughout the year. From the highest field on
the farm a splendid panorama of countryside unfolds with Exmoor
National Park in the distance. Our visitors tell us they really enjoy
walking over our 300 acres of pasture and woodland. Early risers
regularly see the native red deer close at hand and an abundance of
other wildlife - badgers, buzzards, owls, foxes and plentiful hedgerow
flowers and wild orchids.
Here,
shepherding is still done the traditional way, on horseback, with our
Scottish Border collies working our Limousin cattle and sheep; they
also train for local sheepdog trials. While you are here, we trust time
will run a little more slowly so you can savour the tranquility of our
valley, and share part of our farming year.
We
guarantee your comfort in our airy, spacious self-catering
accommodation; we have a small but pleasant garden and ample car
parking. We can help with additional services if you wish - basic
provisions for your arrival, cot/high chair for children and we accept
well behaved dogs by arrangement.
For
the more energetic, Wonham Barton is near Exmoor National Park with
breathtaking scenery for walking and riding; it is also conveniently
located for some splendid exploration of historic, secretive Devon,
varied attractions and dramatic coastlines both north and south. We
hope you will be captivated by our special corner of Devon such that
once discovered, you will want to return.
